Acifix is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in the relief of acid-related indigestion and heartburn.
The gastric H+/K+-ATPase at the secretory surface of the stomach parietal cell is inhibited by rabeprazole, which reduces gastric acid production. Since this enzyme is believed to be the acid (proton) pump within the parietal cell, rabeprazole has been categorized as a gastric proton-pump inhibitor.
While neither the time of day nor the amount of food consumed was proven to have any influence on the action of rabeprazole sodium, rabeprazole tablets should be taken in the morning, before eating, for causes requiring once-daily therapy. This routine will help patients adhere to their treatment plans. Patients should be advised that they should swallow the Rabeprazole pills whole rather than chewing or crushing them. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Acifix 20mg Capsule is to be taken empty stomach.
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any excipient. Rabeprazole is not recommended during pregnancy or nursing.
According to the US Food and Drug Administration, pregnancy category "C." Animal studies on rabeprazole have shown no indication of decreased fertility or harm to the fetus as a result of usage. However, no appropriate and well-monitored trials on expectant mothers have been carried out. Given that rabeprazole is likely to be excreted in human milk, a decision on whether to cease nursing or stop taking the medicine should be made while also considering how important the medication is to the mother.
